Chassis Optimisation & Race Car Vehicle Packaging – Felix Prettejohn

  • Test current IC06 chassis to evaluate modal vibration and torsional stiffness
  • Verify previous FEA model from test data
  • Increase chassis stiffness to required level by use a shear panels
  • Package vehicle for optimal vehicle dynamics

Development and Optimisation of Powertrain – Vladimir Kostadinov

  • Set up and test dynamometer ready for use in December to test IC06
  • Test IC06 to develop a model of the Powertrain
  • Using test data produce report highlighting areas of improvement on current powertrain for future years
  • Simulate and optimise a race strategy for all Formula Student events, paying particular attention to maximising fuel efficiency vs. speed for endurance event
  • Run full exhaust gas analysis for IC06

ECU mapping & Wiring Loom– Adam Seward

  • Modify and install the stock Aprilia wiring loom into IC06 incl. any additional hardware to ensure compliance to FS rules
  • Remap Aprilia ECU to run under new operating conditions
  • Test on chassis dynamometer to develop new engine maps suitable for FS event

Race Car Strategy and Simulation – Alexandre Desneufbourgs

  • Verify tyre choice of 09/10 by simulation of IC06
  • Simulate and characterise the performance of the Formula Student vehicle
  • Develop strategies for all the FS dynamic events
  • Develop race strategies for dry and wet conditions
  • Complete track testing to compare tested results vs simulation

3M DMT Projects 2010-2011

Air Intake System

  • Complete manufacture of the 09/10 design for December testing
  • Bench test all parts ready for December 2010.
  • Produce developed design specifically of the plenum and throttle

Cooling and Dry Sump

  • Modify Aprilia dry sump to fit IC06 by December testing
  • Design and install cooling system using original parts by December testing
  • Test and analyse both systems and develop designs to ensure reliable running at FS event while scavenging minimal power from engine

Fuel System

  • Provide operating fuel system for December testing using original parts
  • Test fuel system and develop re-packaged fuel tank and system

Gear Change & Clutch

  • Provide a simple gear change and manual clutch operation for December testing
  • Produce second gear change design considering mechanical/electrical paddle shift and use of an auto clutch

Pedal Box

  • Complete and install 09/10 pedalbox incl. installation and test of braking system for December testing
  • Test and develop design specifically adjustability to 95 percentile man and system mass reduction

Steering & Driver Information

  • Complete manufacture of the 09/10 steering assembly for December testing
  • Develop new steering wheel incl. all necessary driver controls and quick release mechanism
  • Design and make a driver information display
